An Announcement re Closing of Word Power Books

Elaine Henry writes:

As the owner of Word Power Books for the past two decades, and counting, I wanted to let you know that I have decided to hang up my bookselling boots and move on to pastures new.

Thank you all - customers, writers, employees, volunteers and supporters of Word Power Books - for making the past 22 years such an immense pleasure, challenge and valuable experience for me. It has been wonderful to run this radical bookshop since 1994.

Some of you may have already heard this news indirectly via social media and for that I am sorry. This was not my plan; it was important to me to be able to tell all my valued and loyal customers directly myself.

As to the future of the shop, I am in discussion with several interested parties. Clearly an independent bookshop in some shape or form would be great! However, to clarify things, please note the Crowdfunder campaign to continue Word Power Books was
set up without my knowledge or endorsement.

Word Power Books has built up such a strong community of followers through the radical book fair; book launches and discussions; radical burns night suppers; international women's day dinners; LGBT History month events; Edinburgh Book Fringe and the publishing programme and has had the support of many wonderful writers over the years. It is thanks to all of you that Word Power Books has flourished and your support over the years is very much appreciated.

Strong friendships have been cemented and I hope to keep in touch with many of you. In the meantime, I look forward to seeing you in-store - do drop in and say hello.
