The last of a long line of distinguished Russian aristocrats, Mravinsky emerges from 20th century musical history as Russia's noble conductor. In addition to presenting a valuable historical perspective, this biography examines the artistic environment of early 20th Century Soviet Union, and the leading figures in this environment.
