In her unpublished memoirs, the Cardiff-born artist Margaret Lindsay Williams confessed that an important part of her career had been devoted to making herself 'worthy of recognition'. In her lifetime she achieved richly deserved fame, but since her death in 1960 her life and works have been sadly neglected. This is the first study of an unusually gifted professional woman artist who was described by the Western Mail as the 'famed Welsh Royal Portrait Painter'. Margaret Lindsay Williams painted stars of stage and screen, politicians, soldiers, industrialists and members of the Royal Family, and newspapers often cited her as an ambassador for Wales. This lavishly illustrated volume sheds new light on an intriguing Welsh-born woman artist.
