Features essays devoted to Haynes' oeuvre. This work demonstrates Haynes' engagement with history, feminism, culture, biography, and artistic practices. It examines the depiction of women in many of his films, describing how Haynes revisits questions and themes reminiscent of those invoked in the 'woman's film genre of the 1940s and 1950s.
