Milton's Reinvention of the Mythological Tradition

This wide-ranging study contributes to the knowledge of the mythological understanding of John Milton's works. The Renaissance milieu was not only familiar to Milton, but also helped to shape his thinking about fundamental matters that he addressed in his poetry.

Finally, this study demonstrates how Milton drew upon and assimilated the mythological traditions in his poetry as a reflection of his era's receptiveness to such acts of 'creative mythologizing'.
