This volume details the proceedings of the 2nd International Symposium on the Coating of Thin Films, held at the University of Bradford in September 1992. The contributors include leaders in the fields of coating flows, rheology, drying and solvent recovery.

This is a review of important new work in the fluid mechanics of coating flows (prediction and correlation of film thickness and quality with operating conditions), the rheology of coating suspensions (and its effect on coating performance), drying and solvent recovery in coating processes. It provides an update of advances made, both in academic research and in industrial development. The volume covers key aspects of the continuous coating of webs (using methods such as roll coating, curtain and gravure coating), and also examines the effect of coating formulation and rheology on coating quality. In addition, it details dryer design and operation in line with the strict environmental constraints for solvent recovery.
