Private fostering is essentially about children placed by their parents or guardians to live with non-relatives in the latter's own homes. The estimated 10,000 private foster children in Britain are one of the country's largest groups of vunerable children, yet they receive little consideration from official agencies. This book is based on in-depth interviews with adults who spent a substantial part of their childhood in private foster care. Bob Holman looks at how we can raise awareness, get the government and local authorities more deeply involved, and make urgently needed reforms to the private fostering system.
