This four-volume journal contains articles on Greek, English, German and Latin language, and the history and chronology of the ancient world. The Philological Museum had two bases in England; the Cambridge Etymological Society (1830-2), some of whose papers appeared in the journal, and more widely, in the reformist grouping within the Established Church commonly known as Liberal Anglicans. It was the standard-bearer of the German Altertumswissenschaft which dominated the European classical scholarship of the 19th century. The four volumes should be of interest to scholars of classical studies, history of English literature, cultural studies and history of religion. They include articles and reviews by key classicist scholars.
