The "Anathomie" Section of Gui De Chauliac's "Grande Chirurgie"
An Edition Based on Lexicographic and Historical Studies

This is the first scholarly edition of the Anathomie, which is the first tractate of Gui de Chauliac's (1300-1368) Grande Chirurgie in the French translation found in manuscript H 184 of Montpellier's Biblioth que de la Facult de M decine dating from the 2nd third of the 15th century. It includes an introduction, a lexicographic study of the text, and a glossary. The aim of the lexicographic study is the integration of the ordinary-language and specialized (medical) vocabulary and its meanings into the history of the vocabulary of French. The Grande Chirurgie is of major significance as a source of knowledge on medieval French medical terminology.
