This report considers the impact of school exclusion on the youth transitions of minority ethnic young people, particularly young people from African-Caribbean backgrounds who are most 'at risk' of exclusion. The report is based on an innovative study which empowered the young participants to have an influence on its direction and outlines the destructive consequences of school exclusions on young people's identities, ambitions and potential for successful transition to adulthood. This book considers how the community, policy and family might help excluded young people overcome the stigma of school exclusion and provides much needed evidence-based research on how to break the link between school and social exclusion for African Caribbean communities.
