Launched in 1920 by C K Ogden and others as the successor to the Cambridge Magazine, Psyche was committed to keeping readers abreast of the developments in the fields of experimental, theoretical and applied psychology.

Other contributors included Bertrand Russell (Materialism, Past and Present), F C S Schiller (Scientific Method in Psychical Research), Karin Stephen (The Misuse of Mind), Bronislaw Malinowski (The Psychology of Sex and the Foundations of Kinship in Primitive Societies), J B Watson (Behaviourism), J von Uexkull (Time, Number and Measurement), Henri Peiron (Visual Reception), F Paulhan (Our Feeling as a Form of Knowledge), A A Roback (Character and Adjustment), and Edward Sapir (The Function of an International Auxiliary Language). The development of Basic English under the impetus of Jeremy Bentham's work is fully documented in Psyche , as are all aspects of the linguistic research of Odgen's Orthological Institute. The publishing programme of Psyche was disrupted by World War II, but the long delay before the appearance of the final volume in 1952 produced a classic, ranging over the origins of archetypation, word magic, orthology, educational reform, and a unique model for intellectual historiography.
