This text covers the field of radioactive waste management, it is intended to increase awareness of a branch of science that until recently was mainly classified. Authors from over 60 world-renowned institutions representing 14 countries have contributed to its writing.

This conference is the second in a series entitled Plutonium Futures - The Science. This conference, co-sponsored by the Los Alamos National Laboratory and the American Nuclear Society, is intended to increase awareness of a branch of science that was more or less in the classified literature. Authors from over sixty world-renowned institutions representing fourteen countries will present at this conference. Summaries of most of these papers are contained in these proceedings.
