This work documents an urban design competition for the square in front of the European headquarters of the United Nations in Geneva. It presents the entries for the competition through both text and illustrations.

Geneva is the city of many international organizations and the European headquarters of the UN. The new architect of the canton, Emmanuel Cattani (former partner of Jean Nouvel), and the government have set themselves the objective of giving the city an architectural and urbanistic plan appropriate to the status it enjoys around the world. The competition, presented with the original texts, and illustrations, represents the first step on this path. The variety and contrasts of the responses to this difficult urban planning task, as well as the niveau of the participating architects, make this publication instructive and stimulating reading. Numerous plans and models provide the user with practical information.
