The Wind Mountain site was Charles Di Peso's last archaeological project. With the analysis largely unfinished at the time of his death, this volume represents the cooperative effort of its authors and contributors to bring Di Peso's work on an Upper Gila Mimbres Mogollon settlement to fruition.

During the 1970s, Amerind Foundation staff under the direction of the late Charles C. Di Peso conducted excavations in the Upper Gila drainage of western New Mexico at the Mimbres Mogollon site known as Wind Mountain. After Di Peso's death in 1982, Anne Woosley and Allan McIntyre took up the Wind Mountain study, investigating a site that chronicles a thousand years of hitherto relatively unknown Mimbres Mogollon prehistory. Published here for the first time, this important work provides evidence of long occupation at Wind Mountain an occupation that spanned the Early and Late Pit House periods at a site that evolved ultimately into a Mimbres pueblo. Woosley and McIntyre provide physical and historical context and introduce a detailed chronology for the site. Included are analyses of architectural and ceramic materials, as well as an examination of mortuary treatments of human and animal remains.
