This book is an attempt to apply methods of literary evaluation to certain Middle English works. These works have long suffered neglect as literature because the scholarly world has been preoccupied with commentary upon their historical, social, philological and religious content. Emphasis is on the artistic value and interest of Middle English literature, and its significance to the understanding of more recent writings.
