This is an account of the development of the Association of the Bar of the City of New York during the first part of the century.

In Making Sure We Are True to Our Founders, Morris describes the Associations contributions to judicial selection and discipline, lawyer ethics, federal and state laws and rules, the responsible governance of New York City, and international human rights. The extraordinary role of the Association in prodding New York's large law firms to hire, retain, and promote minority attorneys, and its activities in aiding the homeless, those ill with AIDS, immigrants, and the elderly, are also described.
