Based on John Bayley's memoirs, "Iris" tells the moving and extraordinary story of the forty-year love affair between him and the novelist and philosopher Iris Murdoch. From the romance of their early days at Oxford in the 1950s to her devastating decline in the grip of Alzheimer's disease in the late 1990s, "Iris" is a tender portrait of a marriage that survives even through life's most tragic and mysterious occurrences. Blurring the boundaries between past and present, "Iris" captures the relationship of two brilliant intellectuals, determinedly unworldly, and yet utterly devoted to each other.
