The USA in particular is vulnerable to hurricane impact. Through its focus on the USA, this book provides a framework within which science and policy aspects can be considered together, and made applicable to the study of tropical cyclone impacts around the world.

Explicit consideration of the relationship between science and society is much needed in an era when scientific research is under public and political pressure to demonstrate a better connection with societal needs.
