Deep transformations in the European civil law suppose a large scientific and dogmatic reflection. This book offers a collection of leading cases from 25 European countries and from the Court of Justice of the European Community to help in understanding natural causation - a central concept in civil law. Each case is summarised and commented on.
During the last decades of the 20th century, European civil law has undergone modifications which have fostered common rules in civil law and could lead, as some may hope, to a future European Civil Code. Such deep transformations suppose a large scientific and dogmatic reflection. In order to contribute to a better understanding of natural causation, which is a central concept in civil law, the present book offers a large collection of leading cases from 25 European countries and from the Court of Justice of the European Community. Each case is shortly summarised and commented on. Further, an important number of cases collected are resolved according to the recently published "Principles of European Tort Law". A historical introduction to the concept of causation as well as comparative analytical texts of 11 selected sub-categories give an extensive overview of this concept in continental and Anglo-Saxon Europe.
