This report collates available literature for selected groups of chemical substances with oestrogenic properties, and attempts to answers questions such as: to what extent are chemicals consumed and released to the environment and at what concentrations have they been detected?

Mounting evidence shows that various chemicals used in high volumes around the world posess oestrogenic properties. This raises a number of important questions such as: to what extent are these chemicals consumed or released to the environment?; at what concentrations have they been detected?; and what are the effects of oestrogenic chemicals and do they pose any environmental risk? This report collates available literature for selected groups of chemical substances with oestrogenic properties. Based on the literature collation, the above and other questions are addressed.
