Unique! White-Black America speaks! -- BUPPs (Black Urban Professionals) focuses on the experiences of yuppie black Americans. -- Autobiographical story of upper middle class, 20-something blacks, with six hierarchical stages. -- Written to appear gender neutral -- could be that of any man or woman. -- Doesn't dwell on the BUPP's sometimes negative experiences but challenges one to seek positive solutions from within. The author gives voice to members of the black population who grew up in communities as the only, or one of the few black families. Frustrated and disgusted with the proliferation of gang-banging images of black America, Kerry profiles the BUPP who grew up in an all white suburban experience. The BUPPs emergence from a surreal and insular environment by no means prepares them for what is expected in the real world. Kerry's depiction of experiences in America's educational, corporate, and social settings flatter neither white America's prejudice and intolerance of blacks, nor black America's tendency towards black-on-black prejudice, self-denigration and blind assimilation.
