Bridges

Presents photographs, many of them huge panoramas, of all the major types of bridges that have been built in the world, including: Coalbrookdale Ironbridge; Forth Bridge; Pulteney Bridge, Bath; Bridge of Sighs, Cambridge; Conway Bridge, Anglesey; Brunel's rail bridge, Saltash; Clifton Suspension Bridge, Bristol; and others.

The bridges appear in approximate chronological order: Prehistoric to 1499; 1500-1799; 1801-1900; 1901-1945; 1946 to the present - with concise but insightful captions full of historical and engineering information, following an introduction describing the various bridge designs and materials, and a glossary of terms. This is the latest title in Compendium's new "Panoramic View Series" - huge coffee-table sized books, which use 16-inch wide pages to present the most beautiful panoramic views of the world's heritage and countryside. It features 212 full colour photographs, mainly single- and double-page spreads.
