The second volume of this study and anthology offers sixty-four broadside ballads divided into eight groups: beggars, children on the street, poor people in work, poor people in love, etc. Each section is ordered chronologically and has an introductory survey. It includes substantial commentaries on many ballads, including factual and literary backgrounds, printing histories, and a listing of 1,200 broadside ballads on poverty.
