This series is an annual compilation of editorial cartoons, focusing on all the newsworthy events of the year as expressed through the pens of the major cartoonists from North America. Each edition is indexed by the cartoonist.

In the twenty-sixth installment of this landmark series, the events of 1997 provide ample fodder for the best editorial cartoonists from across the United States, Canada, and Mexico. They lampoon the prolonged Whitewater investigations, Hong Kong's return to China. Chinese political contributions, and more. Also reproduced are the year's winners of the major cartoonist's awards, including the Pulitzer Prize, the National Headliners Club Award, and the National Newspaper Award of Canada. Charles Brooks, editor of all twenty-six volumes, is past president of the Association of American Editorial Cartoonists and was a cartoonist for the Birmingham (AL) News for thirty-eight years. He has been the recipient of thirteen Freedom Foundation awards, a national VFW award, two Vigilante Patriot awards, and a Sigma Delta Chi award for editorial cartooning.
