A biographical account of the author's life after liberation from Auschwitz, which describes how she and other survivors of Auschwitz and the Holocaust came to terms with their fears and created new lives for themselves, mainly in America. Follows SURVIVORS IN US ALL: FOUR YOUNG SISTERS IN THE HOLOCAUST.
Rubinstein, a Polish Jew, is the author of The Survivor in Us All: Four Young Sisters in the Holocaust (1962), which told how Rubinstein and her three sisters survived years of torture, starvation, and hard labour in Auschwitz and described their miraculous escape from the Nazis during a death march in April 1945. Rubinstein now continues the story of the four sisters. She was given a job as an interpreter by the US Army in Czechoslovakia (she spoke six languages), then worked for the United Nations Relief and Rehabilitation Administration in Germany. She married a doctor and eventually emigrated to the US, along with her three sisters. Rubinstein writes of her painful memories -- her parents and brother died in the concentration camps -- and of her bitter realisation that the Jews were forbidden to return to Poland. It's a courageous story of life after Auschwitz, adjusting to freedom, and keeping faith in God in an indifferent world.
