This report of a Nordic project on afforestation aims to provide inspiration to countries facing the challenges of afforestation by decribing the Nordic experience. Areas covered include: afforestation made by the state, by private landowners under the state's influence and by the landowners themselves. The objectives of afforestation in different periods and regions and the means used by state to influence landowners are examined, and the effects of the afforestation are evaluated.
