A-ware is a computer simulation of general surgical anesthesia. It combines mathematical models of human physiology and pharmacology to create simulations of human response to the drugs, procedures and events most commonly encountered in the anesthesiological arena.
A-ware is a computer simulation of general surgical anaesthesia. It combines mathematical models of human physiology and pharmacology to create realistic, accurate and dynamic simulations of human response to the drugs, procedures and events most commonly encountered in the anaesthesiological arena. A selection of pre-installed patient models makes it possible to simulate a range of pathological conditions and their effects on drug kinetics and the patient's cardiovascular state. The Study Edition of A-ware focuses on the fundamental principles of clinical anesthesia and includes pharmacological simulations across a range of patient conditions, and a limited number of basic surgical cases. The Professional Edition is aimed at more advanced users and includes a greatly expanded range of surgical simulations, including intraoperative complications and events. The software can be installed with English, German and French interfaces and comes with a number of pre-installed cases and an extensive help file.

This version of the program includes a total of 20 cases that can be run in the simulator. The first ten cases are pharmacological simulations on subjects in different physiological states including: Normal, Elderly, Obese, Alterd Cardiac Function, Pulmonary Dysfunction, Hepatic Dysfunction, Renal Dysfunction, Chronic Anemia, Hypovolemia due to Hemorrhage, Adrenal Insufficiency. The next ten cases feature two sets of 5 surgical scenarios. The first set uses only normal patient models, and does not include intraoperative complications. The second set uses the same surgical types, with various patient comorbidities and complications. The surgeries simulated are: Right Hemicolectomy
Y-grafting of Abdominal Aortic Aneurysm, Repair of Abdominal Stab Wound, Video Assisted Procedure for Pneumothorax, Drainage of Subdural Hematoma.
