Vehicle crime represents 26 per cent of all recorded crime in the UK. The papers in this volume are taken from a conference that addresses developments which should improve security throughout the automotive industry. The conference was supported by the Home Office. The papers highlight the benefit of a "partnership" approach to combatting vehicle crime, at both local and government levels. Also discussed are products which have resulted from improvements in electronics and software. These products are designed to enhance the safety and security of vehicles, their users and contents or loads. The benefits that the draft standard ISO 15764 "Extended Data Link Security" are addressed.
